Understanding Your Survey

Your survey has identified problems. What happens next?

A RICS Level 2 survey can contain a considerable amount of technical information, including recommendations for repairs, further investigations and specialist advice.

For many buyers, the challenge isn't simply understanding what the report says. It's knowing what the findings mean for the property they're hoping to buy.

As a qualified residential surveyor with practical refurbishment experience, I can help you interpret the report and consider its implications.

Making sense of the findings

I'll take you through the areas of concern, explaining the terminology and helping you distinguish between routine maintenance, defects that require attention and matters that warrant further specialist investigation.

Understanding potential costs

Some defects may be relatively straightforward to address. Others can have significant financial implications.

Where appropriate, I can help you establish preliminary remedial budgets and identify where further investigations or contractors' quotations are needed.

Making an informed decision

Understanding the likely expenditure can help you assess whether the purchase price remains appropriate, whether further negotiations may be justified or whether the risks are greater than you are comfortable accepting.

My role is not to make that decision for you, but to give you a clearer understanding of the issues so you can make it with confidence.

Beyond the survey

If you decide to proceed, I can continue to advise on potential improvements, planning considerations and the specialist professionals you may need to involve.
